Before the permanent assignment with the Committee, he was the recipient of the AVMA’s 1991-92 Congressional Fellowship in which he served for one year with the House Committee on Agriculture. The fellowship program was part of the American Association for the Advancement Science (AAAS) Congressional Science and Engineering Fellowship program.

Proceeding his time on Capital Hill, Curt worked as a practicing veterinarian for 5 years, and today continues an active practice schedule where he sees patients and clients on a part-time basis at a local veterinary hospital.
