Research Participation Program

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate is currently seeking a biomedical research scientist for a postdoctoral fellowship at Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC). The incumbent will pursue research training in the area of foreign animal diseases, including foot-and-mouth disease virus. The individual will join a team of highly trained and motivated scientists in the Targeted Advanced Development group working on novel vaccine countermeasures and will work in a BSL3+ laboratory environment.

Scientific interactions with biotech, government and academic labs are part of the current program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must have recently received a PhD or DVM at an accredited U.S. institution. Individuals with strong backgrounds in veterinary sciences, molecular virology and biology, veterinary immunology and/or vaccinology are encouraged to apply. Plum Island is located off the eastern tip of Long Island, requiring daily travel by government ferry from either Orient Pt., NY or Old Saybrook, CT. The PIADC Research Participation Program is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).
